What are hotel-quality duvets?

We spend about a third of our lives dreaming under a duvet. What could be nicer than crawling under a heavenly warm duvet in the evening? For a comfortable night's sleep you need more than just a good mattress. DOUXE has developed a luxury hotel collection of duvets, so that you can experience the luxury of a hotel bed at home.

What are the advantages of hotel-quality duvets?

Sleep well under the hotel collection of DOUXE duvets. This collection of luxury hotel quality was specially developed for DOUXE and is produced in Austria. To match the ultimate hotel experience, all duvets are made from high-quality materials. With different fillings and made from different raw materials, there is something for everyone. Experience a luxury hotel bed in your own bedroom with the first-class duvets from DOUXE.

What is a duvet made of?

Our hotel duvets are made of down and feathers, which provide good insulation, ventilation and temperature regulation. But DOUXE also offers durable, top-quality anti-allergy duvets with synthetic microfibres.

100% down: the DOUXE Prestige duvet is the ultimate in luxury and comfort for all year round. The supple goose down duvet is super soft and, thanks to the 100% down, very lightweight, yet it insulates well and is therefore wonderfully warm. The downproof ticking with luxury cotton batiste feels silky soft against the skin. The Prestige duvet is available in an all-year and a winter version.

90% down and 10% feathers: the DOUXE Exclusive duvet is a lightweight duvet of above-average quality. The filling consists of 90% goose down, which makes for a lightweight duvet with good insulation. The 10% feathers make the duvet slightly heavier than the Prestige duvet. Because of the 10% feathers there is a little more air in the compartments, so the Exclusive duvet feels cooler than the Prestige duvet. The ticking is made of 100% soft (downproof) cotton.

70% feathers and 30% down: With a ratio of 70% feathers to 30% down, the higher percentage of feathers makes for a weighty, full duvet. At the same time, a higher feather content means the duvet insulates less and therefore feels cooler. The percentage of down ensures that the duvet insulates enough for comfortable warmth throughout the night. Thanks to a perfect ratio of both down and feathers, this is a generously filled Original All Year, Original All Year Plus or Mainport duvet, perfect for a good night's sleep.

100% synthetic microfibres: The original Pulitzer Duvet from Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam is the optimal synthetic version of a real down duvet. The microfibres are processed as loose small particles in separate compartments, which gives the duvet a luxurious look. This duvet offers extremely comfortable sleep. The synthetic duvet from the Okura Hotel and Hotel Bilderberg is also a wonderful duvet. In these duvets the synthetic fibre is stitched together with the ticking, so they feel less fluffy. These duvets with 100% cotton ticking are easy to care for and very suitable as anti-allergy bedding.

Which duvet suits me best?

Which duvet suits you best depends on your personal preferences. Is it often warm or cold in your bedroom? Do you get cold quickly during the night, or do you often get very warm? The weight of the duvet is also an important part of the decision.

The filling of the duvet plays a major role in making the right choice. The higher the percentage of down in the duvet, the warmer and lighter it is. The more feathers, the cooler but heavier your duvet feels.

Do you get cold quickly during the night? Then a duvet with a high percentage of down, or a winter version, suits you. For a lightweight but warm duvet, the Original down duvet is the perfect choice. If you prefer a heavier duvet, the Exclusive duvet in the winter version is very suitable.

Do you get warm quickly? Then choose the Exclusive All Year duvet if you want a lightweight duvet. A heavier duvet that really hugs you but still feels cool is the All Year Original duvet. For warm summer nights we recommend an Original or Exclusive Summer duvet. The durable filling of down and feathers and the ticking of 100% cotton (downproof) ensure excellent ventilation. The perfect alternative to a sheet combined with a blanket during sultry summer nights.

What should I look out for when buying a duvet?

What you can take into account when looking for a new duvet:

  • Warmth and moisture regulation: do you more often feel warm or cold at night?
  • Duvet weight: do you prefer a light or a slightly heavier duvet?

Duvet filling: do you choose down, a combination of down and feathers, or would you rather sleep under an imitation down version, such as a duvet with synthetic microfibres?

Durability: The natural filling of DOUXE down duvets retains its resilience well. DOUXE uses Class 1 feathers and down. Thanks to the good ventilation, a natural filling of feathers and down lasts a very long time. DOUXE also offers several synthetic duvets with an Ecodown filling, such as the duvet from Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam, which is made of 100% microfibres and feels like down.

Allergy-free: are you allergic to house dust mites? Research has shown that house dust mites do not like to live in down and feather bedding. Down duvets are highly ventilating and temperature regulating. Moisture and perspiration are quickly drawn away, so the duvet stays relatively dry. That makes it a very unfavourable habitat for house dust mites, which depend on moisture and sultry conditions. The downproof ticking is an impenetrable barrier for mites, which makes the down duvets from DOUXE allergy-friendly.

Hotel experience: have you slept in a specific hotel and do you want exactly the same sleeping comfort? That's possible: at DOUXE we offer you the same duvets that are used in the Pulitzer Amsterdam, Hotel Okura, Bilderberg and Hotel Mainport.

Is a down duvet suitable for someone with a house dust mite allergy?

Yes. Duvets filled with down and/or feathers are suitable for people who are allergic to house dust mites. Bedding filled with feathers and down has a very favourable warmth and climate ratio for people; it warms up faster during sleep and releases moisture faster when aired. This makes it a very unfavourable environment for house dust mites, which depend on the moisture level.

The high-quality, feather- and downproof ticking also offers extra protection, which prevents mites from getting in. Even if you are allergic to house dust mites or asthmatic, you do not have to give up the natural sleeping comfort that down and feathers offer.

All DOUXE duvets carry the NOMITE quality mark. You will find this on the relevant pages under Certification. The NOMITE quality mark indicates that the product is suitable for people with a house dust mite allergy.

What size duvet do you need?

Do you need a new duvet and don't know which size suits you best? Then the size of your mattress is a good starting point. The dimensions of your duvet will always be slightly larger than those of your mattress. This is because the duvet will hang over the edge of your bed at both the sides and the foot. For an average single bed, a duvet is 140 cm wide and 220 cm long

  • For an average double bed, a duvet is 240 cm wide x 220 cm long
  • Is your mattress 160 cm or 180 cm wide? Then choose a duvet that is 240 cm wide
  • Is your mattress 200 cm wide? Then choose a duvet that is 260 cm wide
  • Is your mattress 200, 210 or 220 cm long? Then choose a duvet that is 220 cm long

What kind of duvet do they have in hotels?

For that ultra-soft, truly heavenly feeling of a hotel bed, a duvet in extra soft down (or an alternative to down) is an absolute must. Duvets of 100% down are the lightest and airiest, yet they keep you comfortable and warm.

DOUXE duvets are produced in Austria in a family-run factory in the Alps. Thanks to the favourable geographical location, the down and feathers are washed with fresh water from our own spring. The welfare of our customers, producers and animals is of paramount importance to us. Our quality marks guarantee that DOUXE only uses down and feathers that are obtained in an animal-friendly way. Moreover, our products are suitable for people with a house dust mite allergy.
