Home Series with Marloes
Marloes lives with her hubby and kids in her dream home. We were allowed to drop by and asked her questions about how she created her dream home. Read below.
How important is your home to you?
Very important. For my work I am always busy and on the road. I am constantly among people and receive stimuli all day long, so when I'm at home I really want to relax. I want to experience the luxury you get from hotels at home too. My ultimate place to relax is therefore at home, with a lot of nature and greenery around me. This is where I recharge after a busy working day. It is also the meeting place for family and friends to have quality time together. A large part of my friends live in the Randstad, while we now live in Brabant, so our house really should be an oasis of calm, enjoyment and, at the same time, togetherness.
What are your requirements when creating and furnishing a bedroom and bathroom?
For me, the bedroom is the room where I recharge. The ultimate place to relax, where the bed is the centrepiece and I want to feel complete comfort. Clean, and not too much furniture, shelves and other objects that can be distracting. Fresh air is very important to me, so our bedroom has a large sliding wall that gives access to a small patio. It hasn't been decorated yet, but this is where I am going to make our small, green hideaway. A small tropical terrace, full of green plants and slightly sheltered from the large garden behind it.
The bathroom is where I start my day. Here I take a long shower and my beauty ritual is a fixed part of my day. I am a real beauty fan and love creams, lotions and make-up. I can really enjoy this ritual intensely. In the evening, too, I can take my time over it. I truly find peace in the bath after a day of hard work. I prefer to light a few beautiful candles and create my own hotel spa. I especially love the Baobab candles, St. Tropez is my favourite! Out of the bath I immediately wrap the oh-so-fluffy DOUXE towels around me and my luxury spa experience is complete.
How does this compare with choosing hotels when you are away?
Hotels are one big source of inspiration for me. It's lovely to be in a completely different environment from home every now and then. But with a good spa, that is a must for me. And preferably in a place where you can easily walk into town or be close to the beach. Because we ourselves live surrounded by nature, I think it's really luxurious when we can walk straight from the hotel onto the beach.
How do you create that luxury feeling at home?
By using luxurious materials alternated with warm materials. In our house, for example, we have a lot of marble and onyx alternated with walnut and warm light. Beautiful linen curtains in light terra colours with sand-coloured microcement floors. Materials make or break it; everything I sit and sleep on must above all be comfortable and nice and soft.
Tips for others when designing a dream home?
Use Pinterest to collect all your inspiration first. Then make boards per room for an overview and look especially at different materials. Combine hard with soft and see what certain colours do together. Now that our house is finished, I still secretly love to spend time on Pinterest every now and then.
